Protect Yourself from COVID-19

Smoking Can Increase Your Risk of Severe Illness from COVID-19

On October 6, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) added residents who smoke or have a history of smoking to the list of conditions that are at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. This means, if you smoke or have smoked in the past and test positive for COVID-19, you are more likely to have serious symptoms or complications.

PROTECT YOURSELF AND THOSE YOU LOVE

Take action and protect yourself and those you love against COVID-19!

The best way to protect yourself and help reduce the spread of the virus is to:

  • Limit your interactions with other people.
  • Take precautions to prevent getting COVID-19 when interacting with others, such as wearing a mask or social distancing.
  • Talk with your doctor and decide on a plan to quit your way, so you can quit smoking for good.

If you have any health concerns or feel sick, please reach out to your doctor. If you do not have a doctor, contact your nearest community health clinic. You can use the Louisiana’s Community Health Centers search tool to find a clinic near you.

Visit the Louisiana Department of Health’s website for more information on COVID-19.
